About the Operation

Just Gerald Seaweed Company is a ground-up, home-based operation in Roberts Creek, BC. I rinse fresh Saccharina latissima and ferment it myself using a slow process I've developed over years of experimentation.

Twenty-five years of being out on this shore, paying attention. The science and the products come from the same place — the same coastline, the same hands, the same slow process.

Common Questions
What species of seaweed do you use?

I use Saccharina latissima (Sugar Kelp) from the BC coast near Roberts Creek. It's the species I know best and the one I've built my fermentation process around. The products work across the full Pacific Northwest — from Zone 6b in the BC and Washington interior to Zone 9a along the coast.

How long does the fermentation take?

Anywhere from 2 to 6 months, depending on the batch. I use a slow, anaerobic fermentation — no shortcuts. The extended time is part of what gives the extract its character.

Are your products certified organic?

I use fresh Saccharina latissima with no synthetic additives. I'm a small home operation and not currently certified organic, but the process is entirely natural from start to bottle.

What's the difference between the foliar spray and the root drench?

The foliar spray is applied as a fine mist directly to leaf surfaces — ready to use, no dilution. The root drench is a more concentrated preparation applied to the root zone and soil. Same source kelp, same fermentation process, different concentrations and applications.

Do you ship outside of BC?

I currently ship within British Columbia and to Washington and Oregon. Email me to discuss other Pacific Northwest regions or further afield.
